Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, July 15, 2009 fastmb asks

Q: Diagnosed with Mondor's Disease, have questions.

I was just diagnosed with Mondor's Disease.  I have not had a trauma to the breast or surgery.  It just suddenly came on.  The mommogram didn't show anything else abnormal.  I also had an ultrasound which confirmed Mondor's.  I understand this is rare.  I cannot find much information on this.  I was seen at a clinic specializing in breast health, and I do not have a history of breast cancer.  I was told not to worry and follow up with my Dr. in a couple weeks.  I'm still concerned.  Can anyone give me more information and share experiences with this?

Thank you.

This is a very rare condition. Although benign in and of itself, it is sometimes associated with  breast cancer; so you should be sure to have sufficient diagnostic testing to rule out cancer. My advice would be to write down every question you can possibly think of, and bring the list with you to your doctor's appointment. Don't leave the office till you get the questions answered to your satisfaction! Good luck - PJH

Thank you for your response.  I did have a mammogram which didn't show anything, and an ultrasound.  Is there other testing which I should have done?  I'm not even sure what questions to ask.  I just have no idea how this developed.  Do you have any suggestions as to what I should be asking?

Thank you.

I'm not a medical person - simply a breast cancer survivor - but I'd ask what's going to happen next - is it going to disappear on its own? Do you need treatment?

I'm glad the mammogram and ultrasound didn't show anything. Ask if you need to be extra-careful about noticing any breast changes, going forward.

Plus, have you tried Googling it? Info. is pretty scattered, but you might be able to get enogh online to help you develop a set of questions.

Good luck - PJH
