clear sticky fluid coming from one breast , what different causes could this be? my sister has been under stress lately, she is looking after our other sister who has ms, she also took care of our mother who had dementia she passed away 2 weeks ago. My sister says she is not concerned but I am.
Hi Ann - Is the discharge (spontaneous (i.e., it comes out on its own, without squeezing)? Has it been going on for awhile (like, several weeks)? If so, then she should be concerned enough to contact her doctor. Spontaneous discharge from one nipple that doesn't disappear within a week or two could be due to a small growth (non-cancerous) in a milk duct, and the irritatiion it's producing. She may need to have this growth removed. Much less likely, it could be an early sign of breast cancer.
If it doesn't meet the conditions outlined above, the discharge might be hormonal, and she could wait awhile and see if it persists, or grows worse. But otherwise, she should call her doctor, describe her symptoms, and see if she needs to make an appointment. Take care- PJH
