Q: My Pathologic Diagnos infiltrating ductal carcinoma, grade2(Nottingham score 3+3+1 0.6cm arising in extensive ductal carcinoma in situ.

 I had breast cancer in my left breast.

My Pathologic Diagnosis reads infiltrating ductal carcinoma, grade2(Nottingham score 3+3+1 0.6cm arising in extensive ductal carcinoma in situ. The ductal carcinoma in situ component show solid, cribriform, and micropapillary architecture. The nuclei are grade 2-3. what does this mean?

Brigette, I'm sorry you're having to go through this; but I'm glad you've found us here, because we can help you. Please read our Guide to Understanding Your Pathology Report - you'll find lots of helpful information there, including a full interpretation of the results above. In short, you have a very typical breast cancer diagnosis: a combination of IDC and DCIS. It looks like the tumor is small, though moderately aggressive. Your doctor will use the information in your pathology report to develop a treatment plan, so it's important for you to understand it if you want to participate in treatment decisions. If, after reading the Guide, you feel you need to know more, your oncologist will be the best one to answer your questions; s/he has all the details of your diagnosis.
