Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 worried asks

Q: Pea size growth and pain in breast... Could this be related to capsular contracture with implant?

My left breast has been hard and sore for about 2 weeks (unable to even lie on my stomach) and I can feel a pea size growth that I'm able to move around, close to my armpit.  I've also had itching in that area.  I do have saline implants and have been previously told by my doc that I have capsular contracture in that breast.  My health ins. kicks in with my new job in a month and I fear of getting stuck with a "pre-existing condition" if I go to the doc prior to that.  Not sure how fast cancer progresses, if that's what it is, and wonder if I should take that risk... Any advice?

Hi - Only you can decide whether to take the risk of feeling a lump, having breast pain, and waiting a month to get it looked at. Please read our post on breast pain, and our post on armpit lumps; they might help you figure out what's going on, and whether or not you feel comfortable waiting. Good luck - PJH
