Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Q: Does taking Femara for long term after A/C & Taxol inhibit regrowth of hair?

I just got my post surgery oncological recommendations. I know the A/C will result in 100% hair loss. I am concerned that my hair will not have a chance to grow back if the A/C and Taxol are followed by 5 years of Femara.

i have really nice hair too. My only good feature. Trying to be a "grown-up" but I am so bummed out with the avalanche of side effects.

Losing hair is a traumatic part of some chemotherapies, including the A/C you are scheduled for.  Our hair is so much a part of our self-image, so don't feel that you need to tough out your grief over losing it.   Although the Femara manufacturers list hair thinning as a possible side effect, it is listed as "uncommon."  So right now, there is no way to know if you would be one of the people whose hair would be affected by the Femara.
