Q: lost insurance after last cancer surgery i need help paying for breast surgery

Currently recovering from cervical cancer. And soon there after lost my medical Insurance. now just one month later they found lumps in both breasts, i am hoping there is a program or someone who is willing to help me pay to have these removed. The hospitols wont even consider it unless i have half down. Well after the cost of the first surgery   My family first lost our furniture, then our car, then finally our home. At the age of 46 and worked my whole life raising 4 children on my own, and never ever going on state assistance, It is extremely difficult to ask for help, but thats my only hope.

Hi Charli - First of all, have you had any diagnostic screening on these lumps? Do you kow what they are? If you haven't yet had screening, you may very well qualify for the government's early detection program for women without insurance and low income. The catch is, you can't have begun any kind of treatment or screening yet.

If you've already ben diagnosed with cancer, then please read our post on financial aid for women in your situaiton. I think you'll find the resources there to at least get started figuring out how you're going to handle treatment, if you have cancer and need surgery. Good luck- PJH
