Topics:Avastin for Stage IIIA

This is in addition to ACT chemo. Does anybody have experience with this treatment plan?

John, Avastin has just very recently been approved for treatment of women who are "triple negative" (i.e., not estrogen- or progesterone-receptive, not HER2-neu receptive), because after chemo, there's no hormone therapy these women can take that's effective. I don't have personal experience with it, but a friend of mine did the protocol you're talking about - chemo followed by Avastin - and she was pleased at the lack of side effects from the Avastin. She finished taking it about 8 months ago, and is doing fine. FYI, ACT is currently one of the most common types of chemo, so the docs have had lots of experience with it - which is a good thing.

Anyone else out there have any experience with ACT followed by Avastin they can share with John? - PJH

John, It's been ten years since I was diagnosed with Stage IIIB inflammatory breast cancer, so I didn't have Avastin myself although I had the three drugs in ACT chemo.  I know (via email) lots of people who have had wonderful results from Avastin.  Like any cancer diagnosis, a Stage III diagnosis is scary, but lots of women do get well.  Keep asking questions so you understand what is happening, and you will get through this.
