According to a new report from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 10 percent of the Earth's population--about 552 million people--will have diabetes by the year 2030 unless urgent action is taken immediately. IDF experts say diabetes will, in fact, replace infectious diseases as the major public health problem. Currently, these experts say 183 million people have diabetes and don't know it, including three-quarters of the people in Africa who have the disease.
