FDA panel rejects Avastin for breast cancer

A federal advisory panel voted not to recommend the approval of the medication Avastin as a treatment for breast cancer. The panel voted 5-4 that Avastin's ability to target breast cancer did not outweigh the medication's toxic side effects. Avastin is already used to treat lung and colon cancer, and the panel's decision applies only to whether or not the drugmaker can market Avastin as a breast cancer treatment.
