Drugmaker Novartis is reporting that its generic unit Sandoz has voluntarily recalled 24 lots of methotrexate injection due to the presence of small glass flakes in the injections. Company officials say these fragments could cause such adverse events as swelling, damage to blood vessels, and even death. The company is also recalling 50mg/2ml and 250mg/10ml vials of methotrexate injection, which are used to treat such autoimmune disorders as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.
