Women diagnosed with precancerous breast lesions known as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) worry unnecessarily about their risk of breast cancer, a new study suggests. Researchers found that 28 percent of women diagnosed with DCIS believe they are at high risk of developing metastatic breast cancer, when in reality less than one percent of them will develop the disease. Experts say women should be aware of the relatively low rate of breast cancer that arises from DCIS-related lesions.
