New test spurs debate on value of genetic breast cancer risk

A new genetic test that claims to determine a woman's risk for the most common forms of breast cancer is spurring a debate about unregulated medical tests. The new test, made by Decode Genetics, uses a blood sample or cheek swab to determine if women have genetic links to breast cancer. But some experts warn that the test could alarm some women and give others a false sense of security. They warn that breast cancer risk is a complicated matter involving age, family risk, and environmental factors, and they point out that cases involving two breast cancer genes only account for one to three percent of all breast cancers.  Read full story >
