Vitamin D, calcium don't protect against breast cancer

Vitamin D and calcium don't protect postmenopausal women from breast cancer, new research has found. A study of 36,282 healthy women between the age of 50 and 79 found no link between Vitamin D and calcium supplements and the womens' risk of developing breast cancer. The seven-year study also compared the amount of Vitamin D in the blood of the women who developed cancer over the course of the study, and found no association between the two. But researchers point out that the study was done only on postmenopausal women, so it may be true that the supplements help premenopausal women.  Read full story >
