Diet tied to breast cancer survival

Researchers say weight loss isn't the only reason healthy eating should be on your New Year's resolution list: it may also decrease your risk of death if you have breast cancer. A study found that breast cancer patients who ate a "prudent" diet full of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and low-fat dairy were less likely to die over the course of eight years than cancer patients who ate a Western-style diet high in processed meats, white flour, sugar, and snack food. The study did not show that a healthy diet decreased the risk of death from cancer specifically, but it did decrease the risk of death from other causes.
