Chemo increases breast cancer survival in older women: study

Older women with breast cancer who undergo chemotherapy in addition to surgery and radiation may live longer than women who don't undergo chemo, researchers say. In the latest study, researchers looked at 600 women and found that while chemo's side effects were "no picnic" for women in their 70's, most of the participants did fine. Three years after beginning treatment, 85 percent of the women who had undergone standard chemo were surviving cancer free, compared to 65 percent of women who had undergone treatment with the oral drug capecitabine.  Read full story >
