Periodic dieting could reduce breast cancer risk

Women who restrict their calories periodically may be reducing their risk of breast cancer more than women who consistently diet, a new study has found. Researchers studied three groups of mice and found that those who went through periods where they cut their calories by 25 percent were significantly less likely to develop breast tumors than the mice who cut calories by 25 percent all the time or the group who were allowed to eat all they wanted. Experts say eating less may lower insulin levels, which may protect against tumors.
