Metformin shows potential as a cancer drug

The diabetes drug metformin has shown success in treating breast cancer when paired with common chemotherapy drugs, a mouse study suggests. Researchers say that metformin helped shrink tumors better than chemo alone, and it helped destroy cancer stem cells as well. Experts say it will be some time before they understand why the drug helps, but they suggest that it may be because cancer cells love glucose.  Read full story >
