Cancer recurrence linked to dense breasts

Women who have dense breasts are four times more likely to experience a cancer relapse than those who don't have dense breasts, a new study has found. The Canadian study looked at over 300 women with cancer and found that over 10 years, 21 percent of those whose breasts had been qualified "dense" by doctors had a relapse, compared to 5 percent of women whose breasts had been qualified as the least dense. The scientists say this study suggests that women with dense breasts should undergo radiation, while women who have low breast density may be able to skip that treatment.  Read full story >
