Shorter course of radiation may be as effective: study

A new study has found that a three-week course of radiation may be as effective as a longer course on some breast cancers. The study found that the shorter radiation course, when given to the whole breast, had similar outcomes as a more traditional five to seven week course of radiation. Experts say in addition to the shortened amount of time required for the treatment, it can also be more cost effective for eligible patients.
