Breast cancer pain can last for years

A Danish study has found that nearly half of breast cancer survivors suffer from pain two or three years after surgery. The study, reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that women under the age of 40 and those who had more involved surgeries or had lymph nodes removed were most at risk for continued pain. Researchers also found that 60 percent of the women studied had other symptoms of nerve damage, such as tenderness or numbness. Experts say the study suggests that better studies need to be conducted on why some women have to deal with pain, while others recover more easily.  Read full story >
