Morphine may accelerate cancer growth

The pain reliever morphine may accelerate the growth of cancer cells, a study suggests, but a newly-approved drug may help keep tumors from spreading. Previous studies on morphine have found that patients thrive more when given minimal amounts of morphine. The new drug, called Relistor, which is used to treat morphine-related constipation, may also slow the growth of tumors and cancer cells.   Read full story >
