FDA Expands Use of Tykerb

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has extended the use of the breast cancer drug Tykerb. The drug is approved for use in combination with the drug Femara for hormone positive and HER2-positive breast cancer in post-menopausal women. The approval was based on a study that showed that patients on a combination of the drugs went 35 weeks before a cancer progression compared to 13 weeks for women who got Femara alone.
