Women who take oral bisphosphonates for osteoporosis appear to have a reduced risk of some breast cancers, a new study has found. Researchers studying 1,832 postmenopausal breast cancer patients and 2,207 healthy women found that those who took the bone-strengthening drugs for more than a year had a 28 percent risk reduction of developing cancer. Researchers also found that tumors that did develop while women took bisphosphonates were easier to treat.
