HRT Plus Low Body Weight May Increase Breast Cancer Risk

A new study may reignite the debate on the risks posed by hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on breast cancer. New findings from the American Association of Cancer Research suggest that women who are on HRT for more than 15 years have a 19 percent greater risk of developing cancer. Women who used combined estrogen plus progestin treatment for 15 or more years had an 83 percent greater risk. The study also found that the risk varied according to body mass index, with thinner women showing the most risk.
