Potential Target for Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Scientists have discovered a unique biomarker for triple-negative breast cancer that may one day allow women to receive a more targeted treatment. A study of 97 breast cancer patients found that the higher concentration of the protein IGF-1R, the better. It was tied to smaller tumor size and lower risk for metastasis. Researchers say IGF-1R has already been shown to be a good treatment target for sarcoma, and they believe that it may be a useful treatment target for women with triple negative breast cancer as well.
