Mealtime Ideas

Making the most of a traditional family time is an important caregiver role. These three tips will lift the spirits of and make life easier for you and your loved one.

Add Some Sparkle
hen you’re serving a loved one in your care, keep in mind that every little touch—maybe enhancing the tray or placemat with a single flower, a small note or a treasured tchotchke—can bring on a warm dinnertime smile.

Make Each Repast Enjoyable
Sit down, relax and savor your meal—whether eating alone or sharing it with others.

Don’t Rush Someone with Dementia
An impatient caregiver can contribute to the unwillingness of a sick person to eat. A sense of being rushed often makes an ill person uneasy, which in turn decreases appetite. Try to remain patient—and give yourself over to the task—as you gently encourage your loved one to eat.
