Hi, I'm Dinah.  Does anyone have any suggestions for helping seniors with sundowning?  I've tried medications, reasoning, yelling, changing mealtimes and bedtimes.  Have you had any success?  Please share.  Thanks.

    Hi,

You might want to read Dr. Vanda's article on Sundowning.  It's a tricky syndrome and not much is known about it, but this article does give some some suggestions that might help.

Hi Lori,  Thanks so much for your response.  I'll check into it immediately.  My mom's doctor seems to be at a loss.  Thanks!

check the side effects of the meds as well...even obscure ones... My mom was in the hospital and was exhibiting thehallucinations and paranoia.  Thank goodness a nurse who had cared for her before was on and suggested that we take her off Pepcid AC...the hallucinations subsided and she was back to her self  36 hours later.  Apparently some antacids can have that affect...don't know why...maybe has to do with the absorbtion of nutrients?

Thanks Simone.  I'll do that.  She is also taking quite a lot of supplements now, but she was having this problem before she started with them.  I appreciate your help.Roll Eyes      Dinah
