About Me

I am a licensed psychologist in Chestertown, Maryland and a senior partner of a group mental health practice, Chester River Behavioral Health, which serves children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing a wide spectrum of emotional and psychological difficulties. I received a Doctor of Psychology degree from Baylor University in 1984 and have been in practice since that time. In my daily practice, I work mostly with adults in individual psychotherapy of depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties and trauma-related disorders.

In 1988, my first wife, Colleen, was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was through our experiences as she fought the disease, and her eventual death in 1990, that I was also inspired to work with individuals diagnosed with cancer. The opportunity to provide assessment and counseling to adults with cancer, and their family members, began as the Director of the Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital Cancer Counseling Program. It now continues through a close working relationship with oncologist David Smith, M.D. in Chestertown and Easton, MD.
