Lipitor or Mevacor?

By Gene Quen Saturday, May 12, 2007
Presently take Lipitor for Chlolestoral, understand taking Lipitor prevents one from eating Grapefruit, as it tends to increase and retain lipitor's strength? Would like to be able to have Grapefruit now and then, would Mevacor allow this and still be effective as Lipitor is?

Dear Gene Quen,

Thanks for your post. Our featured expert Dr. Kang just recently posted a blog about the effects of grapefruit juice on cholesterol. You can check it out for more information here: http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/c/59/10342/grapefruit-juice/. For more information on Mevacor and other cholesterol medications check out this link http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/question-answer-28152-64.html. If you still have questions contact your physician about the effectiveness of both drugs.
