Huh? You will have to THREE to reach the therapeutic dose of Lovaza!
Last year my stats were:
Triglycerides: 788
Total Cholesterol: 269
HDL: 32
LDL: because of the high trigycerides the lab was unable to compute
One year later and 3 pills each morning:
Triglycerides: 184
Total Cholesterol: 197
HDL:44
LDL: 116
I am a 40 year old woman, 5' 8.5" tal and when I started talking Lovaza I weighed 174 lbs. Besides the fish oil, neither my diet or excercise changed until recently. Only in the past month have I incorporated excersice, walking 4 to 8 miles a day, 5-6 days a week, and some daily stregnth training and stretching. My eating habits have not changed but there was never a problem there. I only drink on the weekends now, unless it's a special occasion, but this is a very recent decision, too. As my 41st birthday approches, I am down to 156 lbs and expect ot reach 140 by the end of this year. Keep in mind that even for my height, my normal body weight throughout my life has been between 125-130 lbs. That is my ultimate goal, since I think it will help to continue to improve my cholesterol numbers.
OMACOR = Took it for four weeks, then Medicare refused to pay the second time.
The reason: $1,200.00 for the four week supply. NO MORE OMACOR!
I just checked Merck Medco's site through my United Healthcare insurance compan's internet pharmacy -- Omacor is an $88.50 copay for 90 days (The plan itself pays $0!) while the same, renamed drug, Lovaza, would cost me $108.84 with the insurance kicking in, again, $0. Absolutely disgusting that you would be paying so much more from your Medigap policy/Part D plan! Welcome to the US healthcare system, where we impose legal restrictions on HHS negotiating cheaper drug prices for Medicare recipients -- you had better believe they par a lot less for these drugs in Canada ...and every other civilized country. May be worth trying to get some from a Canadian or Indian internet pharmacy. I had no idea you need 2-4 grams of oil per day. How in the world could someone eat that much fish per day? Seems like the pills are the only way to go. Could flax seed oil work for less cost?
