    Hi Fiona,

The best way to bring your husband's cholesterol back done is determined by which number is high.  What I mean is.  Let's say total cholesterol is 240.  What is his breakdown of HDL, LDL, and triglycerides.

If his LDL is high, start with cutting back on the saturated fats in his diet (trim fat off meat, limit the ice cream, switch to low fat milk, etc.).  If his triglycerides are high watch the simple sugars (soda, lemonade, candy, cake, etc.).

You want HDL to be high.  A good way to get HDL higher is through activity, as someone previously commented.

I am a dietitian and publish a free bi-weekly ezine focused on heart health and weight loss.  My next issue goes out May 31st with an article on fatty acids.  If you are interested go to http://eNutritionServices.com.

    Good luck!  Lisa

This video animation shows how cholesterol behaves in the blood stream. Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells.
