Drop your cholesterol like a stone—naturally!

There's a new conversation brewing in the cholesterol world. (By "new" I actually mean dating back over a decade, but finally starting to percolate up into the consciousness of the public and practicing physicians, who now often rely on patients for the newest information!).   ...

I have had great success in lowering LDL cholesterol via diet and exercise, but have had limited success in raising HDL cholesteral.  I wish Dr. Davis could write a similar article on how to raise HDL cholesteral greatly without raising LDL. I recently started the SloNiacin product recommended by Dr. Davis and would like to adopt other natural methods to hopefully increase the HDL as well.

SmileHow do I find a doctor that understands a low-carb diet, various ratios and how the diet affects my blood tests?  And is the CRP test a good indication of how well I am doing?  (Result was .4) I am stressing over a high cholesterol reading.  Thanks.

I lowered my LDL 39% (from 155 to 95) by reducing my total fat and particularly saturated fat intake. This was confirmed on two cholesterol tests. So I have to disagree that the approach is a "miserable failure."

Where were you all my life? I discovered this on my own back when my blood sugar finally topped 200. Visited DiabetesDaily.com and read about low carb.

For two months I religiously ate 5days a wk 1 packet of Quaker Oats Weight Control oatmeal with 1-2 t flaxseedmeal stirred in topped with cream and cinnamon. I ate only meat nuts eggs dairy(whole cream real butter and cheese) diet coke and splenda as a sweetener. I experimented with all kinds of zero flour recipes using flaxseedmeal or almondmeal-muffins, pizzacrusts, piecrusts, etc.

Labs were repeated two months later (no meds):

Cholesterol 221 to 158

Triglycerides 170 to 82

LDL 141 to 102

HDL 46 to 40 (couch potato no exercise)

Fasting glucose 224 to 142

Years later I am a lapsed low-carber, but for 3days (sort of like church at Christmas only LOL) before my last labs I did the packet of oatmeal with T of flaxseed meal again:

Cholesterol 223 to 187
