My Struggle with High Cholesterol

By joenet Wednesday, May 16, 2007
I have been living with High Cholesterol for years and have been through many diets to compensate. Feeling as if the genes are the issue and trying to make the decicion to go on a statin to compensate.

Dear joenet:

I would recommend that you consult your physician to determine if it is necessary for you to begin a statin treatment. I understand that you have tried the diet route, but you may find it helpful to consult http://www.healthcentral.com/heart-disease/cholesterol-000023_7-145.html for more information on healthy lifestyle changes that you can make to naturally lower your high cholesterol.
Hope this helps,

I too have fought the cholesterol battle for 15 years-
I tried EVERYTHING--I exercise every day, try to stay on diet as advised by registered dietition even herbs and vitamins..
Zetia really helped but my cardiologists advised a statin to reduce cholesterol below 200 and LDL below 100 (heart disease in parents & grandparents)
Well the statins were like magic, although expensive..
Then the downside--muscle soreness, Test were done to make sure this soreness was not a sign of a dangerous side effect that destroys red blood cells..
Now do I stay on the statins and learn to deal with the soreness????
One tylenol does control the discomfort but I hate to take another pill. (I already take 3 types of blood pressure meds.)
My question to you--have you tried Zetia yet if not that would be my next move.
Best wished.
