Can't get HDL to go up

By mvia Sunday, September 23, 2007
Over the last  year I have been doing everything I can to elevate my HDL. I exercise for an hr. a day, have a high fiber low fat diet, do not smoke and take 1000mg of niaspan (I also take 40 mg of simvastatin.) For the longest time my HDL has been 33. I have reduced my LDL from 240 to 109.What's up with the HDL?

I know what you are going through.  My HDL hover between 36 and 38.  I am 32 and had a heart stint at 30.  I am very athletic but for some reason I can never get my numbers up.  I am on 500mg of Niaspan and I also take highly concentrated Omega 3 tablets prescribed by my doctor but I have had very little success in raising my HDLs  the good thing is my LDL are like 75 -80.

I'm surfing the web looking for people like me.  My total cholesterol is 139, my LdL is 82,

TriGlycer 104, HDL 36.  This despite regular exercise, low fat, whole grain diet only, 8-12 portions of fruits/vegetables a day, Lipitor, and Omega 3 suppements.  I'm not sure what else I can do - or need to do.  Any thoughts?
