FIRST MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE FASTING FOR AT LEAST 12 HOURS BEFORE YOUR BLOOD IS DRAWN .
iF THE REPEAT IS SAME , HAVE YOUR DOCTOR PRESCRIBE A COUPLE OF STATINS . I AM ON ZETIA AND MY CHOLESTEROL IN 150 . I HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY TRIGS AS A DIABETIC , SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO DOUBLE CHECK FOR DIABETES . BUT YOU HAVE TO EAT RIGHT , LAY OFF THE ACOHOL AND EXERCISE . IF YOU ARE OVER WEIGHT , LOSE IT.
I AM TRYING MY BEST TO EAT RIGHT , IT'S TOUGH .FINDING TIME TO EXERCISE IS ALSO TOUGH .

triglycerides very high
ronnie
Tuesday, December 09, 2008 at 12:56 PMi had 1640. i went on a fat free diet for 60 days and that got them down to 760. i cut out all sugar and took a pill called Ezetrol. my levels are now around the 400 mark. so as much as you hate it, the diet is a must. as for the pills there are dozens on the market. just remember to watch your CPK, a lot of the pills on the market that contain satins up this enzyme !
good luck 1

Tuesday, December 09, 2008 at 04:41 PMI've had my blood tested twice and seen results of 7428 for triglycerides, and 927 for cholesterol. My doctor was alarmed to say the least. Turns out it's a result of a condition called mixed hyperlipidemia (there are other, similar conditions as well). Basically my body doesn't process fat very well which results in very high levels of fat in the blood. After going on a diet of no red meat, and extremely low carbs, as well as taking tricor and prescription fish oil i got my cholesterol down to 199 and triglycerides down to 400.
My understanding is that simple carbs are the worst, because they break down very quickly into fats (lipids). So pasta, white rice, potatoes, most breads, and basically any starchy foods are out of the question. I have a low-carb diet not just because it's the latest and greatest diet fad out there.
You may also want to look into insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar levels (after fasting) if you're a binge eater, especially if you like starchy foods.
The biggest thing i can recommend is that you eat a balanced and healthy diet, and exercise regularly.

Omega-3 fish oil lowers triglyceride levels

Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 01:46 PMPrescription fish oil is unnecessary and expensive. Get See Yourself Well Professional Grade Fish Oil capsules. If you can't find them have a look at www.nutratecls.com. Take 3grams a day (3 capsules) and watch the TG reading drop within a few days. Has worked time and again for my patients.

Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:40 PMI have been consistently shooting a 1050-1100 for the last 3 Tg tests. And 250-260 on Cholesterol. I have Flax seed oil 1000 mg (That is Omega 3 right) that I stopped taking and should not have.
Is Flax seed as good as Fish Oil? or is fish oil better?
I cook with Smart Balance oil for fish and eggs Smart Balance Light butter for everything that needs it.
I eat Blue Cheese on my salads very little.
My only vice is I go through about 1.2 gallons a week in milk with shreaded wheat and cheerios. I fear you will tell me to stop the milk......and I pray you don't. Mama said that they could have saved a fortune if they could have bought a dairy cow and hooked me up to a udder and left me out back to nurse.....?!
Could 1% or Skim Milk be doing this? I do not drink anything heavier.
I have also had in the last 2.5 years several Lyphomias (I think that is how you spell it) The first started in my neck and was a lump on my lymp gland or it just was my lymp gland that kept going from soft to slightly less than an large English pea not quite as hard as a pea though. At that same time had one pop up on my sternum as well. had doctor check 3 times and finally got a biopsy and after many many many many sticks to my neck the Onc said "All I can find is FAT" Okay So I am about 35 lbs overweight. 6'2" 235. I exercise 2-3 times a week and what I do in endurance impresses 90% of the YMCA in my small town. I do serious reps not just a hundred. I do 1000's It takes me hours. But I do them. I burn about 2200-2500 cals per workout.
In the last 4 months I had one pop up on my inside left mid-calf area. The neck and the leg can ache at times and is very uncomfortable.
I take Wellbutrin as it has helped my ability to focus. I drink lots of water...plenty.
I did a CBC, Full Metabolic & Lipid Panel. Even tested a 3rd time for HIV. All Neg
These things are either too high or low.
Chol 258, TriGly 1049, HDL is Low at 33, VLDL 210MG/DL, Chol-HDL RiskRatio=8, Gluc (Just over Ref 65-100) at 107
I have been looking at this hyperlipidemia thing. Does this sound suspect to you. Please advise and thank you so very much for looking at this. What a wonderful world it is to have this site to ask and inquire.

Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 08:50 PMMy husband and I both have high triglycerides also, not as high as yours. But our doctor told us to take fish oil caps, you can get them over the counter any where. just follow the directions on the bottle, usually twice a day for the 1000 mg. We just started this ourselves so I cant say how well it works but I thought it was worth passing on since it is a fairly cheap and safe way to start trying. Hope it helps you.

Thursday, December 25, 2008 at 06:53 PMMark,
When my hyperlipidimia it was over 3000. It took a while to manage it and now my levels are all within norms.
I suggest you find a good heart lipid clinic. The one that provided me my success is the Midwest Heart Lipid Clinic located in the Chicago suburbs of Naperville and Bolingbrook.
Here is a link to their website and the doctor that brought my levels under control. http://www.midwestheart.com/physician?id=m9J8hOnRp8HjBM5Ky-2x6g
I moved away from the area 6 years ago but fly back once a year for my annual visit. The nursing staff is fantastic and keep regular tabs on me.
Good luck!

Saturday, January 03, 2009 at 08:52 AMHi everyone and thanks much for sharing your stories and for your suggestions. I have eliminated red meats and dairy from my diet, eating only soy, veggies, and fish. Excercise is a bit more difficult since I mostly ride a bike and it's Winter. But I have been walking alot more. I lost 12 pounds in less than two weeks and to my surprise I did not gain any over the holidays while I was home with the family. So thats good news.
I get my Tri's tested again in about 2 weeks.
Here's hoping.
Thx again for your responses.
Mark

Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 12:33 AMMark,
I hope your aggressive changes in diet and exersize are continueing and helping! How are you trigs now? I am a medical assistant in a family doctors office right now and a pre-med student at a large university as well. We have many patients that are working on this same issue. The biggest thing that seems to help with the dozens of people we help out is a complete change in diet. One big thing with trigs is carbohydrates. There are the simple carbs and the complex carbs. Simple carbs are your sugars and fats. Complex carbs are your breads and pastas. You might want to drop the simple carbs completely if you haven't already, and then do not exceed the suggested intake of complex carbs. With meats, fish is better than chicken, which is better than pork, which is better than beef. Basically stay as light as possible with meat and eat in extreme moderation until those trig numbers come down. If you lost 12 pounds from December 12 to January 9, you are doing great with the work outs. Definetely keep that up! I hope youa re doing great now and hopefully you had a lower number this last time you got it checked. Best wishes to you man!

Hig triglyceride levels
Anonymous
Friday, April 24, 2009 at 06:11 AMhave documented tryglyceride level over 8500 . Yes . No typo. Over8,500. cholesterol over 1,200. I'm still walking. The Dr. is working on it with niacin therapy and tricor among other things. Good luck and keep on top of it with your Doctor.

particle shift
Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 06:10 PMsee if the dr will swicth you over to trilipix 135, it has less liver enzymes which means its nicer to your liver, see if you can bump your niaspan up to 2000mg, get on Crestor 10mg or 20mg, This should help out and even out your lipids. I would also encourage you to stay away from alcohol and meat and eat fish(salmon) twice a week not fish oil pills

easy way to even out your cholesterol
Particle Shift
Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 06:07 PMIf your trigs are high most likely that means your hdl is low (low hdl is linked to memry loss) An easy way to get everything under control is to take the proper steps. There is a new drug that came to the market this year (Trilipix 135) it will get your 1900 tgs down to prob about 700 or so, if hdl is low you want to take Niaspan 1000mg not any of the over the counter niacin due to not knowing exactly what you get in itl. If your LDL or bad choletsrol is not at 70 or below then a statin such as crestor 10mg would be perfect. Its more important now to look at each cholesterol number independently not as a total. The reason is that each class (LDL, HDL, and Trigs) are all independent risk factors. There is know need to pay for an expensive fish oil that is prescribed to you, there are tons of other fish oils out there that are just as good that would save you a ton more. Ideal levels you really want to go for is LDL 70 or below, HDL 45 and above, Tgs 150 and below. The edicine will do what it is suppose to do than the Lord will take care of the rest. Hope this helps God bless

Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 02:26 AMAfter 6 weeks of niacin therapy my trigs dropped from over 8500 to just over 150. My cholesterol went from 1265 to 156. I was taking 1500mg when I got up in the morning and 1500 at bed time. Occasional flushing occured, they were slow release. The flusing, though annoying, was harmless. Please have Dr. run tests on liver before attempting this and any other therapy. now eat salmon and mackeral 3-4 times per week. I feel better and now stad a chanc of seeing my kids graduate highschool! My doctor says that tricor and fish oil are a good combination. I like the fish. Try flax! It is good if you don't like the fish. Also, if your Doc says it's OK, try toincrease your niacin. It worked a miracle for me. It also didn't hurt that I had 3 church groups praying for me. Gods blessing on your endeavor to get healthy.
re: re: easy way to even out your cholesterol
Particle Shift
Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 03:01 PMHi Bill,
there is a new medicine that is a little easier on the liver called Trilipix. It is the next step of tricor. Tricor is already pretty safe with combining it with medicine but trilipix is a little better due to its safety profile and that new FDA indication to use with a statin (Crestor/Lipitor/Simvastatin). You can can combine trilipix or tricor with fish oil and will most likely not have any side effects due to it not going through the same pathway in the body. If the fish oil is too expensive for prescription, over the counter or eating fish twice a week are the same thing.
There are a couple test out there that really break down your cholesterol.
CIMT - tests the plaque in your artery by doing an ultra sound on your neck.
NMR - tests partickle size...the bigger particle the better.
KIFF-6 - this is a genetic test to cut to the chase on which therapy would work best for you. Hope this helps and God bless

high triglycerides
Steve
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 01:23 PMHi, I have very high triglycerides (over 3000). The very first thing to do is cut carbohydrates. Your ability to metabolize them isn't working right. The next is definetly cut fats as much as possible. Next, Excersise, this will help your body to utilize your insulin the way in which it is intended. Lastly, no sweets they do not react well with high triglycerides. Medications help but will not probably get you to normal. I'm 50 and having been fighting this since 28. The really important part of this is to watch out taking too many meds!!!! My liver is now permanetly messed up because of meds. I was on in the past.

Hi. I recently had my blood work repeated and my triglycerides were up; however not as high as yours. I also Tricor. But this time, due to my triglyceride levels increasing more, my doctor added Lovaza; which is a prescription form of omega-3. I just started taking it today. I know this isn't alot of help; but maybe you should read about Lovaza and see if your doctor thinks it would help you.
Good luck!
