Q: Why is my LDL high? and my Triglycerides low?

  High LDL, Low triglycerides.                       I am a 48 year old woman. I have HDL 55 mg/dl, LDL 126 and triglycerides 79 respectivley.How can my LDL be so high? However, my A-Lp(a) is 60 mg/dl and my overal cholesterol 197. I am troubled

Hi Elizabeth,

 

Your LDL level is not terribly high.  It's below 130 mg/dl which is good.  However, some physicians like LDL to be lower than 100 mg/dl.  The reason LDL can be high and triglycerides low is due to different dietary factors impacting LDL versus triglycerides.  For example, alcohol and sugar have a direct impact on triglycerides, while LDL is more affected by the saturated and trans fats in your diet.
