However high cholesterol is one of the earliest symptoms of magnesium deficiency so increasing intake of magnesium foods while moderating use of calcium may help the cholesterol level (research on animals in controlled lab settings), anemia, hypertension and elevated insulin are also early problems of magnesium deficiency.
