Q: Cholesterol and diet

I am a 53 year old female. My cholesterol level is 291. But triglyceride level is 63, hdl is 80 and Ldl is 198. My doctor called in a prescription for a statin but I wanted to try and reduce my LDL with diet and exercise. I am 130 lbs and 5' 7. Is it possible to lower my LDL to an acceptable level without drugs?  Does the low triglyceride level change the impact of the LDL level?

Hi Akakak,

Your HDL and triglyceride levels are great, but I still encourage you to take steps to lower LDL.  Yes, it is possible to see results if you make changes to lower your LDL levels via diet and exercise.  Check out the following article for tips.
