I have just gone to my physician and was told that I have HDL of 51 abd LDL of 176.

I am 33 years old and terrified!  He prescribed Crestor, he thinks it could be residual from pregnancy 7 months ago.  Is this a good course of action or should I try it naturally first?

Hi Kaw,

 

It is possible your recent pregnancy is affecting your levels and even more likely if you breastfed.  I've been putting off getting my cholesterol levels re-checked due to pregnancy/breastfeeding and my youngest is close to 18 months! 

 

I recommend discussing alternative options with your physician or consider a second opinion to make sure the medication is the right choice for you.  You do want to lower your LDL and raise your HDL, but whether that's through medication or diet/lifestyle changes is a decision to be made with your physician.  Here are two posts you may want to review:
