Q: what warnings are there about mixing drugs with WelChol?

I am taking 600 mg. of Lyrica a day and 30 mg of Cymbalta for Peripheral neuropathy in my feet which is really painful.

My doctor wants to put me on Welchol for high cholesterol (290) and triglycerides (392) but I am concerned about the interaction with the above meds and I am not confident that this drug will not cause future side effects from all the reports that are released concerning the danger of cholesterol drugs.

Please help me on this.

Hi Sunny,

There are no interactions to be concerned with when adding Welchol to your Cymbalta and Lyrica therapy. While I fully understand your concern with starting a new medication, Welchol is a relatively safe medication. The cholesterol medications that have recently "hit the news" have been the class containing statins (Lipitor, Zocor, etc.). These medications work differently then Welchol, but they also aren't as bad as the media makes them sound. The most common side effects of Welchol include upset stomach and constipation.

Thanks for your question!

Jill
