How Can I lower my cholesterol?

rlndjs

I take 20mg. of simvastatin, and try to watch what I eat, but my cholesterol is still too high. Is there any alternative remedies I can do, or supplements I can take to help lower my numbers?

Hi Rindjs,

My suggestions are:

  1. Increase your activity to 5 days/week for a minimum of 30 minutes.  This will promote higher HDL levels.  The higher you can get HDL the better.  Think of HDL as the vacuum cleaner going through your arteries and picking up the cholesterol dropped by LDL.
  2. Increase soluble fiber intake.  Soluble fiber will lower LDL levels.
  3. Add omega 3 fatty acids.  By increasing omega 3 fatty acids, you improve the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 in your diet, which promotes heart health.

I know the tips are not too far out of the norm, but if you're not already doing these three things, they may make a significant difference.

All the best,

This video animation shows how cholesterol behaves in the blood stream. Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells.
