Is it possible to have problems going to 40mg zocor after taking 20mg for years without problem?

Thanks for your question.  The answer is yes.  Many side effects for medication can be dose related.  People who do well on one dose sometimes develop side effects when the dosage is increased.  This applies to zocor and its effect on muscle (pain).  Statins can affect liver function, which is monitored by periodic blood tests.  Often, when the dose is increased, liver function tests increase, and when the dose is lowered back to the original dose, the blood work also returns to baseline.
