Q: i was told about 25 years ago that you divide your ldl number by your hdl number and if it is less then 5 you are in the normal range. this was told to me by a very good gastrioligist.

Hi Lolly,

 

This would be your LDL to HDL ratio. You want a ratio less than 3.5, ideally less than 2.5. Mostlikely recommendations have just been updated over the past 25 years.
