My cardiologist wants me to start cholesterol lowering meds

I have high bp and take Benicar 40mg.. my fasting blood glucose is 120; My cholesterol is 228. I walk every day 30 minutes and have lost 30 pounds in 5 months; My blood glucose has improved from 141 5 months ago but my cholesterol has not budged and my cardiologist wants me on cholesterol...
