Q: What should be the normal range of Cholesterol without fasting?

I am 37 years male, 2 days before i have done my cholesterol testing without fasting, test has taken without fasting. The result showing like - Total Cholestorl 221,
LDL Cholestrol 145.8.  Doctor suggets that it is normal, is it normal, if not, what are the foods to be avoided

Hi Samuel,

 

There are no established guidelines for non-fasting cholesterol levels.  Generally non-fasting levels will be higher than fasting cholesterol levels.

 

If your non-fasting cholesterol had been normal, then there would be no need to measure fasting cholesterol.  When non-fasting is not normal, then a fasting cholesterol panel is usually ordered; however, that is to be decided with your MD.

 

It "sounds like" you are uneasy with your non-fasting cholesterol levels.  There is nothing wrong with expressing your concerns to your MD and requesting a fasting "lipid panel".  You could then definitively rule out high cholesterol or start taking some actions to lower cholesterol if your numbers are creeping up.
