cat,
Thanks for your questions.
First of all, tricor (fenofibrate) can be taken any time of day as long as it is taken with a meal.
The symptoms you've described are all possible side effects that have been reported with the use of tricor.
And finally, tricor does interact with Coumadin and can prolong the activity of the blood thinner. The dosage of the Coumadin should be decreased with the use of tricor. The prothrombin time will need to be checked on a more frequent basis until a new dosage of Coumadin is established, and to be sure that the prothrombin time is not too prolonged.
I suggest your husband make an appointment with your doctor to go over the symptoms which could be attributed to the tricor. Also, discuss the Coumadin therapy and the needed measures mentioned above.
There are several other drugs available on the market should the tricor need to be discontinued. However, I would not start a new drug until these symptoms have cleared and it has been determined that these symptoms were, in fact, due to the tricor.
Best wishes.
Martin Cane, M.D.
