My blood pressure, weight, cholesterol went from normal to high after spinal epidural injections?

Joan Gross

I had trigger point injections 8 at a time for approximately 4 month then I was treated with spinal epidurals a set of 3.  It was a workers comp injury.  With Xanax and Maxzide my blood pressure is back to normal but I am still overweight.  The Doctor wants me to go on Zocor.  Now that I am done with the injections won't my levels go down without taking medication if I am working on my diet?

Prolonged use of oral corticosteroids (such as prednisone) can be associated with some of the problems you are describing. Epidural injections for spinal pain and trigger point injections (which often do not use steroids) are rarely a cause for these issues because of the lower dosage and limited exposure. Is it possible that the weight did not come from the injections, but from lack of exercise due to the injury? And even if it is due to injections, if you lose the weight and the cholesterol decreases, the Zocor can always be stopped.
