Q: Can you drink alcohol while taking this?

I know someone that is taking Lipitor; according to him his physician says that he can have a beer.  Just wanted an opinion about his claim since one of the side effects could possibly be liver damage.

Hi Friend,

It is best to avoid drinking alcohol when taking Lipitor.  The alcohol can raise triglyceride levels and also increases risk of the liver damage you mentioned.  However, I recommend your friend work with his physician to determine what is appropriate for his treatment plan.

All the best,
