In order to give you an accurate answer, I'd need to know your cholesterol breakdown (LDL, HDL, and triglycerides), so I could more accurately convert to mg/dl and evaluate your levels.

However, from the nurse's advice, I think it's safe to say that your total cholesterol is elevated and needs to be lowered.  Determining the step that would be most effective, depends on which number is elevated (LDL or triglycerides).

If LDL is high, focus on lowering saturated and trans fats intake, while increasing dietary fiber (especially soluble fiber).
