Q: I've taken GEMFIBROZIL, METFORMIN, VYTORIN & GLIPIZIDE successfully for 3 years. Insurance cancelled VYTORIN-replaced that with SIMVASTATIN and now all my readings have gone bad. HELP?

The above combination worked with great success for over 3 years. about 3 months ago, My Insurance carrier stopped paying for VYTORIN and my doctor switched me over to SIMVASTATIN to replace it...since that time, all my blood sugar readings, cholesterol readings...everything has gone way bad. Is there an incompatibility issue with GEMFIBROZIL and SIMVASTATIN? Also, after starting on the SIMVASTATIN, I had terrible stomach aches after eating grapefruit. Should I stop taking SIMVASTATIN or GEMFIBROZIL or both..or what?

Vytorin is nothing more than generic Zocor (Simvastatin) and Zetia. You are taking pretty much the same thing as before. Most insurance comapnies, like mine, will no longer pay for Vytorin since it was shown in the ENHANCE trial that the addition of Zetia did not reduce the risk of CAD any more than Sivastatin alone. This will explain;

Hope this helps,
